D-Link Voip Products – Review 2
My earlier review covered the following products from D-Link; DPH-140S (IP Phone) and DVG-6004S (FXO Gateway); and how they can work with Asterisk and Skype Sip Gateway (Personal Edition). In this review, the main focus is on DVX-1000 (IP PBX).
The following network diagram is used in the review. It shows how DVX-1000, DVG-6004S, DPH-140S and X-Lite softphone running on a PC are connected and configured.
Key Pointers In Getting DVX-1000 to communicate with DVG-6004S
- The gateway definition for DVX-1000 can be any arbitrary number. In the example above, it is set to 9999@192.168.2.1. Note that though 9999 is arbitrary, 192.168.2.1 is not. It is the WAN address of DVG-6004S. This requirement to set a gateway definition is a little strange. DVG-6004S is already a SIP client to DVX-1000, so setting a gateway definition seems really unnecessary. Also if the number can be arbitrary, why allow user to enter it in the first place? In my previous review when I set up Asterisk to work with DVG-6004S, there is no need to do such a set up.
- The “Routes” definition in DVX-1000 must have the “Dialed Digit” and “Prefix” defined. “Dial Digit” means the number to prepend to the PSTN number and “Prefix” is the DVG-6004S SIP number. In the example, the “Dialed Digit” is 9 and the “Prefix” is 100 or 7011. Note that 100 and 7011 are SIP numbers defined in DVG-6004S.
Now for the surprising part.
What works!
- X-Lite to/from DPH-140S
- dial 101 to DPH-140S from X-Lite – Sound is loud and clear.
- dial 102 to X-Lite from DPH-140S – Sound is loud and clear.
- X-Lite to PSTN
- dial 9 followed by PSTN line number – Sound is loud and clear.
- dial 100 or 7011, wait for line tone, followed by number – Sound is loud and clear,
- PSTN to X-Lite
- entering extension 102 on voice prompt. – Sound is loud and clear.
What is not working!
- DPH-140S to PSTN
- dial 100 or 7011 – There is no dial tone but can dial number to connect to PSTN number. There is no sound or 1 way sound upon connection.
- dial 9 followed by PSTN line number – There is connection but no sound or 1 way sound.
- PSTN to DPH-140S
- dial 101 on voice prompt – There is connection but there is no sound or 1 way sound.
Suggestions From D-Link
Upon feedback to D-Link, they say the problems observed can be replicated with their own tests. D-Link suggested the following:
- Replace DPH-140S with the new VOIP phone (GLV-515). DPH-140S is EOLed. With GLV-515, the above problems do not happen.
- Avoid the network topology above. Use a router to sit between DVX-1000 and DVG-6004S. The following is an example.
Conclusion
Once properly configured, DVX-1000 performs satisfactory. Its features, however, are basic. It should appeal to those who do not need sophisticated dial plans.

We had the same product DVG-6004 and DPH-140S. Can we configure this two product to call out to standard POT line without the SIP Server? For this stage we just plan to replace all the ordinary phone to IP Phone in order for us to save cost for the wiring.
Thank You.

Unfortunately I don’t think so. Both are SIP clients. So you still need a SIP server somewhere.
