Skype Sip Gateway (PE) Version 1.1

Released On 17th Dec 07

Important Note

For those who have installed Skype Sip Gateway (PE) Version 1.0, when you run “install.sh”, make sure you do not overwrite “skypegw.xml”. It is your configuration file. Alternatively if you do not want to run “install.sh”, you need only replace “skypegw” with the new release.

Enhancements

  • When calling out from SIP phone (X-Lite, Ekiga, IP Phone, ..) to Skype address, the caller should hear a dial tone upon connection to Skype callee.
  • To ensure better performance, the gateway resets itself after 3 days. This is done during period when there is no ongoing call.
  • From testing, most of the problems relate to audio ports not released or created. When that happen, the audio cannot be piped between Skype and SIP. This could be due to bugs with Skype, Opal or Jack. The only way to overcome this is to better detect this and manage the situation by reseting the gateway or restart offending components. This release does this better than 1.0.
  • The problem with glibc is much reduced with this version. It still exists though and despite using many tools, this is a very difficult problem to resolve.

Sound Cards

  • This gateway is tested to be working with Intel 82801BA-ICH2 & Ensoniq AudioPCI sound cards. If the sound system hangs when Skype is used with Jackd, this is due to a bug in Skype. Skype is not exactly “alsa jack plugin” ready. There is a bug filed on this, see https://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SCL-120. When this happens, it is impossible to use the gateway. The only option is to try another sound card if you have one or until Skype releases a version that fix this.
