Skype Sip Gateway (PE) Version 1.2.1
Released On 31th Mar 08
Important Note
For those who have installed Skype Sip Gateway (PE) Version 1.0 or 1.1, when you run “install.sh”, make sure you do not overwrite “skypegw.xml”. It is your configuration file.
As there are a number of changes in 1.2.1, you will have to run “install.sh” to set up the changes.
This version is compiled under Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 for non real-time kernel version “2.6.20-16-generic”.
Enhancements
- Reduce CPU usage. The program is now nicer to other programs so that CPU time slicing is better allocated to other programs.
- More rigorous handling to overcome Skype bug in alsa jack behavior – see https://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SCL-120. There is an external program monitor to see if Skype is hung up on an audio connection.
- When a call comes to Skype, there is now a delay about 5 secs before the call is answered. This is also done to overcome the Skype bug.
- Audio redirection is now done by an external program. This decoupling is better for monitoring.
- In the gateway user interface, you can also run jackd without the realtime option, enter “/usr/bin/jackd -dalsa -dhw:0 -r48000 -p256 -n2 -s -S” without the “-R”.
Sound Cards
- This gateway is tested to be working with Intel 82801BA-ICH2 & Ensoniq AudioPCI sound cards. If the sound system hangs when Skype is used with Jackd, this is due to a bug in Skype. Skype is not exactly “alsa jack plugin” ready. There is a bug filed on this, see https://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SCL-120. When this happens, it is impossible to use the gateway. The only option is to try another sound card if you have one or until Skype releases a version that fix this.
